At approximately 1500 hours on June 9th, 2024, the Middle Island Fire Department was activated for a structure fire on Yaphank Middle Island Rd for a reported fire in the ceiling. Upon arrival of Middle Island Assistant Chief 5-15-31 assumed command, and he noticed smoke coming from the eaves. 5-15-31 noticed fire in the attic and transmitted the working fire at 15:08 hours. The mutual aid preplan was activated. 2 lines were stretched and crews quickly knocked down all fire. The scene was under control at 15:16 hours. Other departments that responded included Coram Fire Department, Ridge Fire Department, Yaphank Fire Department, and the Brookhaven National Lab Fire Department. The Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshal was requested due to fire damage, no occupants or firefighters where hurt or injured.
